Ettus Research/National Instruments UBX-40 USRP Daughterboard
The UBX-40 (part number: 783774-01) from Ettus Research (an NI brand), is a versatile USRP daughterboard with 40 W of bandwidth. This daughterboard has coverage for frequency ranges spanning from 10 MHz to 6 GHz, making it an incredibly effective wideband transceiver. The device can operate in full duplex mode thanks to its independent TX and RX frequencies, and it offers RF shielding capabilities. The UHD software API allows the UBX-40 to seamlessly connect into current software applications. Hardware revision 2 is the most recent stable version that is currently advised for use.
There are two quadrature frontends on the UBX-40: transmit and receive. While the receive antenna can be configured as either RX2 or TX/RX, the transmitter antenna is a TX/RX type. However, the receive antenna is always set to RX2 when the device is utilized with a full-duplex mode UBX board. Female SMA connectors are used for both the RX2 and TX/RX variants.
Phase-synchronous operation is possible with the daughterboard, which is advised for phase-coherent applications. A clock rate of 20 MHz must be selected instead of the standard 50 MHz rate if the frequencies that need phase synchronization are less than 1 GHz.
This USRP daughterboard has a variety of LEDs that visually indicate the status of different features. The LOCK LED displays when a synthesizer lock has been detected, while the TX/RX TXD LED indicates when the board is transmitting with the TX/RX antenna port. Likewise, the TX/RX RXD LED shows when a signal is being received on the TX/RX antenna port. Finally, the RX2 RXD LED indicates when a signal is being received on the RX2 antenna port.
Environmentally, the device has an operating temperature range of 0°C to 40 °C. The operating humidity level should be noncondensing and within a range of 10% to 90%. When the UBX-40 is being used with either the USRP N210, USRP2, or USRP N200 (alongside a GPS oscillator accessory), a larger power supply of 24 W must be used.
